Election Season Angst
Do you suffer from Election Season Angst? Fear is heightening tensions over candidates they don’t ascribe worthy of being the new POTUS in 2016.
While it’s important to discuss the challenges we face, our opinions should benefit one another. Not condemn one another. For Christians, we’d do best to focus on letting others see the light of Christ in us. I read many immoral social media comments (made by many good people), in which I could not recognize a reflection of Christ.
Frustrations over candidates we don’t agree with provokes angst. In fact, I happened to me when a certain candidate’s political spin attempted to sway the public from the truth. But I got to thinking that if I’m going to use a social media platform to opine about an issue I can’t agree with, I first need to see it through the eyes of Christ. Then I need to say it with the heart of Christ or say nothing at all.
Afterall, Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords regardless of who on earth is POTUS. In this truth, I find peace and resolve. A solid rock to stand on. Will you stand on that rock with me?
Helpful Scriptures to Overcome Election Season Angst:
2 Timothy [2:23]-25 (NIV) “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NIV) “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
Psalm [22:27]-29 (NIV) “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, for dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations. All the rich of the earth will feast and worship; all who go down to the dust will kneel before him—those who cannot keep themselves alive.”
Romans 13:1-2 (NIV) “Submission to Governing Authorities
“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.”
