Is SHE Really More Precious Than Jewels?

“…for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.” Proverbs [3:14]-19 (NIV)

Oh, how I’d love to be the “she” referred to in these verses! Wouldn’t you? Just imagine if your boss valued you as being more profitable than silver, and yielding better returns than gold. How would you feel if your spouse told you that you are more precious than rubies, nothing desired can even compare with you?

Imagine if your teenagers thought of you as a tree of life that will bless them. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

Replace The She With Your Name

So go ahead, replace the “she” in those verses with your name, and say them out loud.  How did that feel? Did they describe who you believe you are? If not, do you aspire to be what they say? I absolutely cherish these proverbs, and they are definitely something I aspire to be considered as, but they’re not talking about me–as she! King Solomon used the word “she” in these Proverbs to describe “wisdom.”

Psychology Today says “It can be difficult to define wisdom, but people generally recognize it when they encounter it.”

I believe that when we exchange our ideas for God’s wisdom and apply it, we achieve these descriptions about she in Proverbs. If people generally recognize it when they encounter it, they’ll see us as profitable and valuable; precious and desirable; honorable and pleasant; peaceful and like a tree of life.

“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” Romans [11:33]
